The Text
“Therefore an overseer must be above reproach, the husband of one wife, sober-minded, self-controlled, respectable, hospitable, able to teach.”
1 Timothy 3:2
Synopsis
Above Reproach
Paul opens his list of qualifications for church leadership with a summary requirement that covers all the rest: a man above reproach. Not a man without sin, but a man whose life gives no one just cause for accusation — a reputation, inside the church and out, that matches his profession of faith. This first gathering asks what that kind of character looks like, and why every man, not only elders, is called to it.
This is the opening session in an eight-part walk through 1 Timothy 3, hosted by Geneva Men, the men’s ministry of Project Geneva.
The Gathering
An Evening of Teaching, Discussion & Fellowship
Geneva Men brings together men from churches across the Valley for a short teaching from Scripture, honest discussion in small groups, and a meal together. It is built for men at any stage of life — new believers, seasoned elders, and everyone learning what it means to walk in step with Christ.
Rev. Michael Spotts will open the series with this first mark: a man above reproach.
